SEATTLE, Wash. – According to the Secretary of State’s Office, Protect Marriage Washington, the conservative organization that has been collecting signatures in an attempt to repeal the Domestic Partnership Expansion Law of 2009, has collected sufficient signatures to meet the threshold for the Secretary of State to begin the process of signature validation. The group needs 120,577 valid signatures to qualify Referendum 71 for the November ballot, only about four percent of the state’s registered voters. The Secretary of State will scan all the petitions and by mid-week and then start verifying signatures.
Referendum 71 has absolutely nothing to do with same-sex marriage equality. This man is blatantly lying about his intentions.
Yesterday I wrote about potential fraud and intimidation from referendum 71 petition gatherers, particularly by Dan Ricca a migrant paid signature gatherer. I wrote about election fraud in Orange County California and Oregon that Dan Ricca was closely involved with. It turns out that was not the end of the story.
People are innocent until proven guilty in this country, but there is certainly enough evidence that Dan Ricca is a suspicious individual whose activities should be monitored extraordinarily closely. If there is even a slight chance the Dan Ricca the Chronicle encountered is the same Dan Ricca accused of fraud and forgery, I demand the Secretary of State validate every single signature turned in on Saturday.
With only 4 days remaining for opponents of equality to secure over 120,000 signatures to place referendum 71 on the ballot, thousands of Washington families are held in suspense.
